Establish classroom routines that emphasize attendance and notice absences

Building new habits requires visibility, repetition and recognition, and especially for young children and their families, a dose of playfulness.

Build attendance into a song or ritual during circle time.

  • Ask children to count the number of classmates and identify who’s missing.
  • Sing a song or recite a short verse wishing the absent children well.

Provide daily recognition for children who show up on time. You can use branded materials from Perfectly Punctual or Attendance Works. Or you can create your own theme and look.
